Chelsea star Jorginho has moved to strike back at former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, after finally securing his UEFA Player of the Year award.
The last six months, of course, have proven to be the most productive of Jorginho’s career.
After establishing himself as a vastly improved and above all reliable figure at Chelsea’s midfield base, the former Napoli player proved to be a key cog in new boss Thomas Tuchel’s engine during the second half of last season.
Such efforts ultimately culminated in the Blues achieving a top 4 spot in the Premier League and reaching the final in the Champions League for the second time in their history.
However, after Jorginho’s triumph on the greatest stage in club football, just a few weeks later, there was more glory.
This came at an international level, as the 29-year-old again ran the show from his position in the middle of the field, this time for Italy at Euro 2020.
Roberto Mancini’s men defied all odds by defeating players like Belgium and Spain, before defeating hosts England via a penalty shootout victory, to lift the European Championship trophy.
Jorginho, for his part, secured a deserved place within the Team of the Tournament.
And such a remarkable success, in turn, saw Chelsea’s midfield director suitably rewarded individually late last month.
This came in the form of the UEFA Player of the Year award, with Jorginho having beaten competitors like his teammate N’Golo Kante and Champions League finalist Kevin De Bruyne:

The former Hellas Verona player subsequently received his last accolade on Tuesday night, ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Zenit St. Petersburg.
And, as mentioned above, following his latest big achievement, Jorginho has taken the opportunity to target one of his many naysayers.
The individual in question? Rio Ferdinand.
In 2019, former Manchester United star turned expert Ferdinand questioned the Italian’s abilities, in insisting that:
“He doesn’t get assists, he’s not a great defender, once a game gets like that against the big teams, he’s overrun in midfield and he can’t run.”
In turn, finding images of the claims in question on the TikTok account ‘everything.blues_’ this week, Jorginho was quick to take advantage of the situation and posted the clip on his Instagram story, in a clear response to the mockery of Ferdinand.
