Tottenham dealt a new blow due to Bergwijn’s injury against Rennes

Does the absence of Chelsea arrive? Tottenham dealt another damaging injury blow against Rennes

The first half of Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting with Stade Rennais tonight has seen the Lilywhites take their final blow on the personal front.

All square

Of course, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently in action in France.

In the club’s first outing in the Europa Conference League, the Spurs traveled to Roazhon Park to face Rennes in the group stage.

And the first 45 minutes have proven to be enormously entertaining in nature.

The match scoring opened with just ten minutes left, when a fine escape by the visitors finally culminated in Lucas Moura’s shot in the face of the goal that was deflected home by the unfortunate Loic Bade.

However, Rennes wasted no time in getting a well-deserved draw.

On the back of a sustained mid-half pressure spell, Flavien Tait directed a magnificent shot with his right foot into the far lower corner of Pierluigi Gollini’s net:

Bergwijn limped

However, as described above, an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable evening of soccer in northwestern France has so far been soured by an injury at the half-hour mark.

Tottenham showed that the left side were concerned, after a strong challenge to Steven Bergwijn left the Dutchman down-to-earth and requiring treatment.

In turn, after being treated by the visiting medical team, it was finally decided that Bergwijn was in no condition to continue, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg having been introduced in his place.

The 23-year-old, for obvious reasons, now seems a doubt to feature in Tottenham’s next outing, a Premier League showdown with rivals from the capital Chelsea on Sunday night.

Bergwijn, who has just returned from a period on the sidelines, joins the likes of Heung-min Son and Ryan Sessegnon at the treatment table in North London.
