New update on Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey ahead of Burnley clash

The latest on Thomas Partey's chances of starting at Arsenal vs Burnley

Thomas Partey “pushes” despite managed load

Armory Chief Mikel Arteta provided a new update on key midfielder Thomas Partey, with the Ghanaian international approaching a full return to first-team duties.

Partey has yet to appear this season for the Gunners who started slowly in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, losing three in the spin before finally halting their decline earlier in the season with a 1-0 win against Norwich in last. weekend.

Arteta did not give a schedule on his availability, but was optimistic about what he has seen of the former Atlético de Madrid player;

“He has been training in and out this week. His burden has had to be handled, but he’s pushing everyone as usual and he wants to get involved. We will see what is best for him. “

The upcoming weekend clash with Burnley at Turf Moor appears to be too early for Partey, but Arsenal could certainly use a full return from a key central figure given the narrow options in the middle of the park today.

Arsenal rely on slim options during Partey’s injury

There has been a certain amount of criticism surrounding Arsenal and their summer spree. Despite the overall success of the window, the Gunners were unable to bring in additional central reinforcements aside from the young Sambi Lokonga, or the inability to sell Mohamed Elneny and find a suitable upgrade to replace the Egyptian international.

As such, Arteta entered the new season with veteran Granit Xhaka as Lokonga’s partner in the center of the park. But with the Swiss international seeing red against Manchester City, the Arsenal manager gave Ainsley Maitland-Niles (a player many thought would be leaving before the transfer deadline) alongside Lokonga, and the pair helped lead the club to their first win of the season.

Many are eager to see a Partey-Lokonga duopoly before Xhaka has finished serving his three-game suspension and certainly Burnley would be a decent testing ground to test his viability this season despite Xhaka having his contract extended when his desired move for AS Roma collapsed.

But at the very least, the return of such a key figure to the team, with the North London Derby on the way, would be a valuable care package that could help Arsenal find form after such a poor start to the campaign.
