Manchester City’s Rodri opens up to the pain of defeat in the Champions League final

Manchester City's Rodri opens up in the pain of defeat in the Champions League final before Leipzig

Man City vs RB Leipzig

Manchester City, of course, would reach their first Champions League final last season, before finally losing to Chelsea.

However, the Citizens will have at least one more shot at European glory with Pep Guardiola this season, and they have been selected from a rather difficult group.

The Manchester powerhouse will begin their Champions League adventure on Wednesday night, taking on German team RB Leipzig at the Etihad.

However, fortunately for City, Leipzig are not at the level we have seen them in previous seasons.

Julian Nagelsmann has left the club for Bayern Munich and would take key midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and Dayot Upamecano with him.

On the other hand, Ibrahima Konate has left the club for Liverpool, leaving Leipzig on a much weaker side than they ended in 2020/21.

This has been reflected in their results so far this season, which has seen them win one and lose three in the league.

Rodri on losing the Champions League final

Ahead of Wednesday night’s game, Rodri has opened up to the pain of losing a Champions League final.

Rodri didn’t actually play in the final, with Guardiola choosing not to start a proper defensive midfielder against Chelsea, perhaps why would City lose the tie?

Regardless, the Spaniard was on the bench and still very affected by the loss, stating that he couldn’t even speak to his family of friends:

“You have three shitty days the next few days, you can’t even talk to your family or friends, they are always there to support you, but your face is not as good as you want it to be.

“This is football, you can win or lose and we move on. In defeat you learn more than in victories ”.
