Leeds faces potential central defense crisis after FA rejected Pascal Struijk's red card appeal for tackling Liverpool's Harvey Elliott

Struijk injures Elliott

Liverpool faced Leeds United in a Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Harvey Elliott would receive his 3rd Successive league start for the Reds after an impressive start to the season.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, he would suffer a nasty-looking injury at the hands of Leeds’ Pascal Struijk.

The Leeds man has since apologized, but unfortunately for Elliott, the damage has already been done:

In Struijk’s defense, the tackle itself did not appear to be malicious, something Marcelo Bielsa repeated after the game.

The Argentine was also questioned about the possibility of appealing the red card, but little revealed at the time:

Leeds to the bone in the center of the back

Now, however, it has been confirmed that Leeds did appeal to red,

However, as reported by The Athletic, Struijk will serve a three-game suspension after losing his appeal against the red card, which was dismissed by the FA’s disciplinary department on Tuesday night.

It is added that this leaves the Whites with only one senior center-back, Liam Copper, having already lost Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.
