Liverpool sound the changes against AC Milan

Following their strong start to the season, Liverpool have made the changes for their first Champions League group stage game against AC Milan.

Joe Gomez had his first start of the season after a season injured, while Divock Origi has returned from the cold amid the injuries of Harvey Elliot, Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino.

The Reds, who will be looking to improve on last season’s disappointing loss to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, now look light in attack, while defensively there is still no debut for new center-back Ibrahim Konate.

Why Origi is starting

Even with the injury crisis, Divock Origi has found playing time hard to come by. In fact, he still has a minute of competitive football to play this season and he hasn’t even made the squad of the match for the last three games.

However, Klopp retains faith in him, explaining why he opted for the Belgian forward over Sadio Mane, saying:

“It’s about bringing fresh legs and surprising the opponent. I’m sure he will play well tonight. ”

Could it be that Origi will offer something different to a Liverpool front row that will likely see a lot of ball, while also offering a more physical presence than Mane?

Both Mane and Minamino are on Liverpool’s bench, in case the plan doesn’t have the desired success, but could Origi become an unexpected hero?
