Jack Grealish breaks 17-year-old record in Champions League debut with Manchester City

Jack Grealish breaks 17-year-old record in Champions League debut with Manchester City

The 100 million pound man meets on the biggest stage

In a downright insane game, Manchester City finished on the right side of a 6-3 scoreline against German team RB Leipzig in their first match of the Champions League group stage. A Christopher Nkunku hat-trick failed to help his team, who fell in a tough defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s team courtesy of six different scorers.

One man who made an instant impact was new kid Jack Grealish. The last Citizen was signed by Aston Villa in a £ 100 million deal over the summer and started life brilliantly in Manchester. The 26-year-old has already recorded a goal and an assist in 4 Premier League appearances, and also added a goal and an assist on his Champions League debut.

Providing a cross from which Nathan Ake nodded on the first goal of the game, Grealish took matters into his own hands in the second half. Slashing in from the left side, the winger knocked out a defender before launching a right-footed shot into the far corner of Leipzig’s goal.

Grealish breaks the 17-year-old record

Unbeknownst to Grealish, their performance against the German side set a new Champions League record. In both scoring a goal and providing an assist, he became the first Englishman to do so on his debut since 2004, when Wayne Rooney repeated Manchester United’s feat against Fenerbahce.

With the addition of Grealish, can City do better than the final heartbreak this season?
