Arsenal’s Tomiyasu explains why PL is difficult for Japanese players

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu explains why the Premier League is difficult for Japanese players

Tomiyasu debuts vs Norwich

Arsenal would face Norwich City on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League clash.

The tie was of great importance for both sides, who were still looking for their first points of the PL campaign.

Arsenal headed into the tie without having been able to score a single league goal in their previous three league games, losing to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Norwich had also fallen in defeat in their first three Premier League ties of 2021/22, but they had at least scored a goal against Leicester.

As a result, both sides were clearly desperate for a much-needed victory at the Emirates.

In the end, however, it would be Arsenal who prevailed. The Gunners dominated the clash and finished with 30 shots, of which only seven were on target.

But they would eventually find the breakthrough in the 66th minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a 1-0 win.

Takehiro Tomiyasu would make his Arsenal debut over the weekend. The defender was placed directly on the right side and enjoyed a pretty decent debut.

Why the Premier League is difficult for Japanese stars

Tomiyasu would later earn praise from both Mikel Arteta and Arsenal legend Ian Wright following his debut.

Now, after receiving his first experience in the Premier League, Tomiyasu has explained why the English top flight is difficult for Japanese players.

Currently, there are only two Japanese players in the PL, Tomiyasu and Takumi Minamino from Liverpool.

And this may have something to do with the physical nature of the league, with Tomiyasu citing that this is why it is so difficult for Japanese players:

“Right now, there are 2 Japanese players including me. Me and Minamino, playing in Liverpool. Playing in the Premier League is difficult for Japanese players because the Premier League is very physical, but I think I’m ready. “
