Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks on the importance of assists

Pogba enjoys a good start to the season

Paul Pogba has started the season as a man born again. After the disappointment of Euro2020, he returned to Manchester to see that his team had added 3 stars in the form of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo, and in turn improved their performance levels to match.

This has also been confirmed in the statistics, as the Frenchman provided an immense seven assists in four games for the Red Devils, including four in the season opener. By comparison, this is already two more than he achieved in the entire 2020-21 Premier League campaign, and he appears to be thriving with his new teammates.

In turn, this has led to reports that he is set to complete a U-turn and extend his contract (which expires this summer) at Manchester United, whereas he was previously expected to leave for free in 2022.

Speaking last night, Paul Pogba’s brother revealed:

It’s his decision: he feels great at Man United now, this season … then let’s see.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer downplays the numbers

One man who will not be won over by Paul Pogba’s impressive assists record this season, at least not publicly, is Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Speaking ahead of his trip to face the Young Boys in the Champions League, the United manager downplayed assists.

When asked about the impressive record, the Norwegian asked:

‘What is assistance? A straight pass and Bruno hits the top corner or when Paul makes a great pass and Mason runs past? Paul has always been a great passer, one of the best in European football… I don’t count the assists, it’s all the social networks ”.

It is clear that, although Pogba leads the way on his side, he is not carried away by the numbers.

Do you agree with the United boss?
