Cristiano shows class with gesture ahead of the Young Boys tie

CR7 equals another appearance record against Young Boys

Manchester United kick off their Champions League campaign with a trip to Switzerland to face the Young Boys tonight. With a strong team called up, Cristiano Ronaldo was among those in the starting lineup, along with an unusual start for outcast Donny Van de Beek.

Now, after being named in the starting XI against Young Boys, CR7 has equaled a Champions League record.

According to Opta, Ronaldo is set to make his 177th appearance in the UEFA Champions League, equaling Iker Casillas as the player with the most appearances in the competition’s history:

And indeed, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who opened the scoring in the opening minutes, shooting on goal after a sublime pass from his Portuguese teammate Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo shows class by controlling Steward caught with loose ball

However, before the game started, CR7 proved his class as a player.

In the warm-up, a butler was hit with a loose ball that left him on the ground. First player on the scene? None other than Cristiano himself.

With the legend back in Manchester, he will ensure that the standards do not slip at Old Trafford, and only a brave man would bet against the Red Devils by bringing some kind of silver to the Theater of Dreams this season.
