Ivan Toney opens up about Arsenal’s season opener: ‘It didn’t really affect us …’

Ivan Toney admits to being disappointed in Arsenal at the season opener, before gleefully hinting at his interest in the Gunners trade.

An interesting snippet from an interview by Brentford star Ivan Toney on the current plight of Arsenal’s sleeping giants sparked attention online Monday.

Concern in the Emirates

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, of course, are off to a less than ideal start to the new season.

With four games on the board in the Premier League, the team from the capital has secured just three points, which will be presented last weekend in a home match with the new top flight boys, Norwich City.

The weeks leading up, on the other hand, saw Arsenal brought down by European champions Chelsea and English champions Manchester City.

Hands down the most disappointing outing by Arteta’s men to this point in 2021/22, however, came on opening day.

A trip through London to face the newly promoted Brentford saw the Gunners fail in their performance in any shape or form, en route to a deserved 2-0 loss.

‘It is not the best…’

And, as described above, one of those who had first-hand experience of the struggles Arsenal endured on this weekend’s opening day opened up to the disgrace of North Londoners in recent seasons.

Speaking in an interview with Baller talkBrentford’s star man Ivan Toney was drawn to last month’s clash at Brentford Community Stadium, and did notice any noticeable difference between the level displayed by the Gunners and the teams in the Championship.

And the 25-year-old continued to explain:

“You see Arsenal right now, they are not the best.”

“There was a difference, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t crazy, if you make a mistake, it’s going to end up in the back of the goal.”

“They were good at keeping the ball, but it didn’t really affect us.”

Toney continued:

“I don’t know if it was just that they weren’t that good, or we were just excited because it was our first game and it was Arsenal and it was the Premier League.”

I just didn’t see them the way they used to be. You used to look at Arsenal and think they are going to win this game … ‘

Perhaps the most notable conclusion when it comes to the Brentford standout’s take on Arsenal’s current woes, however, came in his closing remarks.

On a light-hearted track that will no doubt be picked up by many fans of the Emirates team, Toney hinted that he could be the answer to the Gunners’ woes:

‘I don’t see them win anything anytime soon … Until they get a forward.
