A nightmarish start to 2021/22 for Newcastle has been further compounded by the injury of one of its key stars.

The beginning of the Newcastle nightmare

Newcastle would start their season squandering a 2-1 lead to eventually lose 4-2 at the hands of West Ham.

This was followed by Aston Villa beating the Magpies 2-0 and Newcastle then crashed out of the League Cup at 2North Dakota round vs Burnley.

Bruce and company earned their first point of the season in their last clash before the international break when they drew with Southampton.

However, they would then face off against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United over the weekend and were really overpowered.

Manchester United eventually won 4-1 to go to the top of the Premier League, while Newcastle languish at 19th place with only one point from four games.

Wilson hit

Newcastle would have to face United without the services of their top scorer, Callum Wilson.

Wilson, who suffered a thigh injury against Southampton last month, was discarded of the United game by Bruce on Friday.

And now, as mentioned above, a further update on the situation makes for a gloomy reading for Newcastle.

According The athletic, Newcastle faces the prospect of being without Wilson until after the October international break:

Newcastle United could be without top scorer Callum Wilson until after October’s international break, in another blow to Steve Bruce’s beleaguered team.

It is added that although Bruce has refused to set a timescale for Wilson’s return, it is unlikely that he will face Leeds United, Watford and Wolves.
