Everton fans let Doucoure go for praise after Burnley’s win

Everton's open men steal the show in Burnley's comeback win, but Toffees fans pick another star to receive special praise

The Everton faithful have taken to social media in numbers tonight to praise midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Townsend back on song

Rafael Benítez’s men, of course, got their campaign going again just a short time ago.

In the final game of the Premier League match week, the Toffees welcomed Burnley to Goodison Park, aiming to join Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United at the top of the English top flight table.

And, when all was said and done on Monday, this is precisely what Everton accomplished, courtesy of a 3-1 victory.

After a total opening of 45 minutes, the clash exploded into action after the interval.

Burnley opened the scoring for the game, when Ben Mee nodded home to Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson with a precise shot from the right with 53 minutes left.

From here, however, Everton just took over.

First, another good cross pass this time saw Andros Townsend hit Michael Keane with a superb header, before the former scorer-turned-scorer in spectacular fashion slammed home an impressive 25-yard shot:

And the night’s scoring was completed minutes later, when Demarai Gray held on to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s pass to split the defense to confidently pass past Nick Pope.

In turn, after another impressive night’s work for Everton, it has since been a bit of a surprise to see the names of the club’s two men, Townsend and Gray, grab the headlines.

However, as noted above, he is in fact another member of Rafael Benítez’s squad whom the Blues faithful have been eager to lavish praise on.

The player in question? Abdoulaye Doucoure.

French midfielder Doucoure has seemed like a man reborn during the first weeks of the new season, patrolling Everton’s ranks in the middle of the park with equal courage and cunning.

And it was the last of these traits that was instrumental in his team’s turnaround on Monday, as the former Watford player scored not one, but two of the home team’s goals.

Love in Doucoure has come a long way as a result, and just a few of the social media highlights are shown below:
