Images of Arsenal star Charlie Patiño completing the score in the defeat of Manchester United’s under-23 club have gone viral online tonight.

Who is Patiño?

The 17-year-old Patiño is making his way through the lower ranks of Arsenal in the Premier League.

The star is a midfielder by profession, with a wide range of outstanding technical attributes.

After starting to attract attention with the Gunners Under-18s last season, Patiño, despite his tender years, was subsequently called up to be part of the club’s Under-23s, in Premier League 2.

And the months since then have only seen the English go from strength to strength, amid suggestions that Patiño is not just one of, but THE most promising talent currently plying his trade in the red half of North London.

This is certainly an opinion shared by the man who proved to be the decisive voice in attracting the teenager to the capital early in his fledgling career, with Gunners scout Brian Stapleton, who recently provided insight into Patiño’s talents:

“Of all the years I’ve been exploring, he’s the best boy I’ve ever seen.”

‘I got a tip about Charlie from a guy, so I went there and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was 11 years old and I think I was playing in the U-13, and I was like ‘wow’.

His first touch was incredible, his vision, his awareness of space. He was way above his years, he was on another planet to anyone else in the field. ‘

I made a phone call to my department head at Arsenal at the time, Sean O’Connor. He asked me what I thought and I said: ‘well, I’m not going back. I don’t need to see more, you have to sign this guy right away. ‘

And, as described above, such skills were on full display once again this weekend.

On Saturday night, Arsenal’s Under-23s welcomed Manchester United at Meadow Park, for a highly anticipated Premier League 2 showdown.

The hosts, in turn, clinched a well-deserved 3-1 victory, so three wins out of four opened the new campaign.

And even though Folarin Balogun, of course well known to the Arsenal faithful, has proven crucial in scoring a double, it was that man Patiño who ultimately stole the show.

When the crash came to injury time, the 17-year-old completed the score in spectacular fashion.

Showcasing all of his impressive talents, Patiño first recovered the ball with a good challenge, before jumping past a series of defenders with wonderful balance and close control.

And even better was the midfielder’s final result, a delicate chip beyond defenseless Dean Henderson, labeled ‘just awesome’ by Arsenal’s social media team on Sunday night:
