Feminist group Level Up takes responsibility for flying a plane over Old Trafford on Ronaldo's return

Ronaldo’s success on the pitch

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford was greeted with jubilation by those inside the Theater of Dreams, as he scored two goals en route to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.

Each of his touches, steps and shots left the United faithful purring, and his two goals, though not special in execution, sent those gathered to watch the show into an ecstasy the ground has not seen in a long time. maybe never. .

With his second debut now behind him, Reds fans will hope that he continues his scoring record at the club and can fire them to some long-awaited silver trophies this season.

There are still problems off the court

However, off-court problems still surround CR7, including rape allegations made against him, for which a civil lawsuit remains open in the US.

Note: The following is a detailed excerpt of the allegations and the resulting legal actions taken through the Manchester evening news.

The accusations

Ronaldo is alleged to have raped an American woman, Kathryn Mayorga, during a vacation in Las Vegas in the summer of 2009, just weeks before his move from United to Real Madrid. An accusation he has always denied.

On June 12, 2009, Ronaldo met Mayorga at the now-closed Rain nightclub, and they were photographed by paparazzi that night.

Mayorga has alleged that she was invited to return to Ronaldo’s suite at the Palms Place Hotel, where the rape is alleged to have taken place. A day later, on June 13, 2009, Mayorga reported the alleged assault to the police, but chose not to reveal his name or the name of his alleged assailant, or where the incident occurred.

After hiring a lawyer, Mayorga initiated civil proceedings against Ronaldo, instead of pursuing the criminal charges.

Taken actions

As a result of the civil action, the legal teams representing the two parties met in Las Vegas for mediation in January 2010. Ronaldo was not present at the talks.

That mediation reportedly led Ronaldo to agree to pay $ 375,000 (£ 270,000) to the plaintiff as a settlement, although there was no suggestion that the settlement involved or accepted any wrongful conduct on the football star’s part. In return, Mayorga was unable to publicly discuss the accusation.

In 2018, a year after a German newspaper made the accusation against the player public, Ronaldo’s legal team accepted that the 2010 agreement existed, but reiterated that Ronaldo had not admitted his guilt.

“This agreement is in no way a guilty plea,” said a statement from his lawyers in 2018. “What happened was simply that Cristiano Ronaldo simply followed the advice of his advisers to put an end to the scandalous accusations that were being made. they did. precisely to avoid attempts, like the ones we are witnessing, to destroy a reputation built thanks to hard work, athletic ability and correct behavior ”.

Las Vegas police re-investigated the alleged ‘sexual assault’ in 2018 and in January 2019 they requested a DNA sample from the footballer, and six months later they concluded that Ronaldo would not face any criminal charges.

“Based on a review of the information presented at this time, the sexual assault allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” said the Clark County District Attorney’s office. “Therefore, no charges will be brought.”

A spokesperson added: “She (Mayorga) refused to identify him or reveal where the crime occurred. As a result, the police were unable to follow investigation protocols for sexual assault cases or conduct any meaningful investigation.

“Without knowing the identity of the perpetrator or the location of the crime, detectives were unable to search and seize vital forensic evidence. In addition, the video evidence was lost, showing the interactions between the victim and the perpetrator before and after the alleged crime ”.

For some, he is considered guilty, including the feminist group that raised the level, which flew a plane over Old Trafford during the confrontation with Newcastle. Taking social media to explain their actions, they revealed:

We flew in a plane over the Man United soccer field and our message is simple: Trust me, Kathryn Mayorga.

Let’s say NO to the culture of silence around the abuse of the soccer community. Pledge your solidarity with Kathryn and the survivors
