Brendan Rodgers named as one of the last options to potentially replace Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Brendan Rodgers named as one of the last options to potentially replace Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Recently, two more names have been touted as possible replacements for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

Arsenal fighting

Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign got off to an absolute nightmare start.

The Gunners would start their season against the newly promoted Brentford, who had never played a game in the Premier League before.

However, the Bees were able to take advantage of a poor defense from Arsenal, especially from Ben White and Pablo Mari, to win 2-0.

The Gunners followed this up by losing 2-0 to Chelsea in the league, although that game could have easily ended with Thomas Tuchel’s men scoring four or five.

And this is exactly what Manchester City achieved in Arsenal’s last outing before the international break, beating five of the North Londoners, who are now officially enduring their worst start to a top flight campaign since 1954/55.

Such a poor start to the campaign has already put Mikel Arteta’s future in the Emirates into question, with reports in late August, having suggested that the capital’s team is likely to make Antonio Conte their first-choice target to replace the Spaniard.

Then on Saturday both Brighton’s boss Graham Potter and Brentford boss Thomas Frank went, according to TEAMtalk, emerging as possible candidates for Arsenal’s head coach if and when they decide to leave Arteta.

Rodgers and good eye boss

Of course, Arsenal and Arteta have achieved their first league win of the season.

But even that home draw against a newly promoted Norwich wasn’t exactly the most convincing win for the Gunners.

So while Arteta had probably eased the pressure on him a bit by now, I would assume that his job is still not entirely safe at this point.

And, as mentioned above, still more managers are being promoted as replacements for Spanish in North London.

Speaking in the Transfer Window Podcast [as cited by football.london] this week, Ian McGarry claimed that Arsenal are considering Nice boss Christophe Galtier and Leicester player Brendan Rodgers as possible options to replace Arteta should the club decide to fire him in the coming weeks.
