Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has offered his take on the impressive debut of the Gunners’ summer addition Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Mikel Arteta’s men were back in action on Saturday afternoon.

In the club’s first outing at the back of the international break, the Gunners welcomed Norwich City to the Emirates, for a bottom-of-the-table clash.

Arsenal went through the process knowing that no more than three points would be enough, after slipping to a trio of losses in their first three outings of the season.

And when all was said and done in North London, clinching the club’s first win of the season on the board is precisely what the hosts simply accomplished.

A hard-fought affair, during which it sometimes seemed that Arsenal would never get a first game, finally saw the game’s revealing moment arrive at 20 minutes into the second half.

After a remarkable sequence of events in which Nicolas Pepe hit not one but both posts, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to score Arsenal’s first goal of the Premier League campaign, sealing victory in the process:

However, after the action came to a close in the capital, it was not in fact the name of the match winner Aubameyang that was on the lips of many Arsenal fans.

Instead, this came in the form of the summer addition Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Japanese international Tomiyasu, of course, sealed a deadline change to the Emirates early last week, before being pitched early on by Mikel Arteta against Norwich, in a right-back role.

And the former Bologna player fully restored his new boss’s faith, deeply impressing in a 62-minute debut:

The faithful Gunners, in turn, were quick to praise the latest addition to the club’s team.

And, as described above, such accolades have since been echoed by one of the greatest players in North London history.

When he was drawn on Tomiyasu’s first outing in Arsenal colors during a Match of the Day appearance, club legend Ian Wright simply explained:

“I thought he had a fantastic debut.”

This comes after Mikel Arteta was too keen to point out his new plug to praise Saturday night, and the Spaniard was particularly impressed with Tomiyasu’s understanding of his role:

‘[It was] really positive. Just the first impression when you met him, it was just joy, happiness and good energy. ”

“By the time he stepped onto the pitch, he was really focused, determined, he understood the role very well.”
