Tottenham to the bone in the center of the back as Eric Dier limps out of the Crystal Palace clash

Tottenham to the bone in the center of the back as Eric Dier limps out of the Crystal Palace clash

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

The early start of Saturday’s Premier League is currently unfolding and Crystal Palace and Tottenham face off at Selhurst Park.

Spurs headed into the game as the only team to win all three of their Premier League games so far this season, placing them at the top of the table.

Crystal Palace, on the other hand, has only earned one point with new boss Patrick Viera.

However, the Palace was likely boosted by the fact that Nuno Espirito Santo would be forced to present a slightly weaker squad on Saturday.

Heung-min Son and Steven Bergwijn were lost through injury, while Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sánchez were still unable to play after traveling to red-list countries during the international break.

Dier wound blow

And, with less than 20 minutes elapsed against Palace, the Spurs’ back problems have taken another hit.

With Romero and Sánchez absent, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanaga were deployed as the initial central midfielders against Palace.

Tanganga had started the season with excellent displays as a right back, but the Romero / Sánchez situation seemed to have forced Nuno’s hand a bit.

And now, the Spurs central defender’s woes have deepened even further when Eric Dier was forced to retire within the first 15 minutes on Saturday:

Inexperienced Joe Rodon has now teamed up with Tanganga at the rear and depending on the extent of Dier’s injury, this may also have to be Tottenham’s CB partner for their next two games.

Nuno has already confirmed That Sánchez and Romero will not return to England until the eve of Sunday’s game against Chelsea, ruling them out from the Europa League conference clash with Rennes on Thursday.

And with the pair arriving just the day before Chelsea, will Nuno want to go through Sánchez or Romero directly?
