Ronaldo made his second debut for Manchester United against Newcastle United against Old Trafford Crowd

Ronaldo made his second Manchester United debut against Newcastle United in front of the Old Trafford crowd

Ronaldo returns

In a deal confirmed just days before the end of the transfer period, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would return for a second stint at Manchester United, 12 years after his last season at Old Trafford.

CR7 scored 118 times in 292 appearances for the Red Devils during his final stint in England, and will look to significantly increase that during the two years he’s signed with the club.

Meanwhile, his signing has proven to be a huge success for the Manchester United brand, with sales of the ‘Ronaldo 7’ jersey reaching £ 188 million, which he paid for the transfer fee alone.

Can Ronaldo, often his club’s hero, bring success to Manchester after four long years without a trophy?

Ronaldo made his first outing

Before the game, all United fans were understandably desperate to see his idol debut in front of the Old Trafford faithful this afternoon against Newcastle United, who have achieved only the lone point of their first three games.

United, by contrast, have tallied seven points from their first three games, with a 1-1 draw at Southampton the only blemish on their record so far. With Ronaldo added, they could continue their strong start and make a push for the title this season.

Fortunately for those traveling to Old Trafford for the 3:00 pm game, Ronaldo had his first start with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, leading the line in the absence of Edinson Cavani, who was left out of the squad for the day.

It would complete the fairy tale for the Reds if the Portuguese forward scored on his return to the club, and it would certainly mark the end of two surreal weeks for the United faithful.
