It would be an understatement to say that Michail Antonio is having the time of his life for West Ham as of late. The English international recently received the Premier League Player of the Month award in August after his excellent start to the 2021-22 campaign, which sees him topping the scorers’ list with four in the first three matches.

On the back of their efforts, West Ham have taken seven of a possible nine points to start a season that has already shown that their success last season was by no means a fluke.

Hammers boss David Moyes praised his incumbent center forward during his pre-match press conference before West Ham’s clash with Southampton tomorrow on the south coast;

“A lot of how we started the season is because his [Antonio] The goals have been excellent for us. His game has been very good. He returned to preseason in good condition and has worked hard during that period. I

I think he’s a guy who needs a good training period on him, and I have to say that he has done very well for the team and I remember that he also missed a penalty kick in Newcastle, so he certainly could have scored more goals. but it has been fantastic for us and that can continue. “

Antonio, the talk of the town in West Ham in a late career rise

“I never really thought about becoming the top scorer of all time. Because when I first signed with West Ham, I was just trying to get a game.

Every time a new coach came in, they would always drop me on the bench and I had to work to get back to the team. So it was a great fight for me. To be able to say that I am the top scorer of all time is an incredible feeling ”. [quotes sourced from Forbes]

It’s not every day a footballer becomes his club’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League era. For Michail Antonio, the West Ham center forward was hardly a man many would have dreamed of in today’s London Stadium setting, but the reality is that the Londoner has made his mark on a club with so much history. certainly a dream come true.

Antonio came into the 2021-22 Premier League campaign in shape from last season which saw him finish as the club’s top scorer of the season with 10 goals, which was good enough to be ranked 20th in the league. But his incremental improvements under David Moyes over the past 12 months make him look like one of the best forwards in the country, with the new Jamaican international reveling in what is a new lease on life after a career that was hardly guaranteed. . they have a sustainable presence in the highest English category.

His recent accomplishments, which almost reflect another late blooming in Jamie Vardy, are what dreams are made of. And as West Ham’s magnificent history continues to unfold, Michail Antonio looks set to remain a key figure in its resurgence.
