Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Cristiano Ronaldo will play Newcastle

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Cristiano Ronaldo will play Newcastle

Ronaldo returns

In a deal confirmed just days before the end of the transfer period, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would return for a second stint at Manchester United, 12 years after his last season at Old Trafford.

CR7 scored 118 times in 292 appearances for the Red Devils during his final stint in England, and will look to significantly increase that during the two years he’s signed with the club.

Meanwhile, his signing has proven to be a huge success for the Manchester United brand, with sales of the ‘Ronaldo 7’ jersey reaching £ 188 million, which he paid for the transfer fee alone.

Can Ronaldo, often his club’s hero, bring success to Manchester after four long years without a trophy?

Ole confirms Ronaldo will play Newcastle

Before the weekend, there was only one thing on everyone’s mind; Cristiano will make his Manchester United debut against the Old Trafford faithful when they host Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

To this end, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remained coy, but admitted that he would show up somehow, revealing:

“He will definitely be on the field at some point, that’s for sure.”

It remains to be seen if this is in the same capacity as teammate Raphael Varane on the field against Leeds United (an announcement and a salute to the crowd before the game started) or something more significant, such as a substitute appearance.

For those heading to Old Trafford, they will expect it to be the latter.
