Rodriguez returns and a Calvert-Lewin fitness track

Everton training takeaways: James Rodriguez returns and a Calvert-Lewin fitness track

A number of noteworthy findings have been presented at the staff front in Everton on Thursday.

The Benítez era on the march

Of course, the Toffees have had a totally positive start to the new season.

On the back of Rafael Benítez’s installation on the club’s bench, Everton have so far looked solid if unspectacular, scoring 7 points out of 9 available in the Premier League.

Not only that, but the Merseysiders booked their spot in the EFL Cup third round, courtesy of a 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town.

The next step for Benitez and company, meanwhile, is a Premier League meeting with Burnley at Goodison Park.

The Blues will undoubtedly be confident in their chances to keep their strong start to the season alive against Sean Dyche’s team, as the Clarets have scored just one point in their own three games to date.

Rodríguez returns / DCL boost

And, as described above, on Thursday, a number of major staff updates have been made at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground.

The first surrounds the Colombian international James Rodríguez.

The talented midfielder Rodríguez, of course, has yet to show up for the Toffees this season, amid extensive reports Over the summer, new boss Benítez has identified the 30-year-old as exceeding the requirements.

This afternoon, however, for the first time in a long time, James was again seen training with the rest of the club team.

Could a debut season appearance against Burnley be forthcoming?

Next comes more positive news for the Merseysiders, in the form of Ben Godfrey’s return to fitness.

Plug Godfrey, like Rodriguez, has yet to take the field in 2021/22, albeit due to injury concerns.

On Thursday, however, he was photographed very involved along with the rest of Benítez’s team, hinting at an imminent return to the tasks of the day.

Perhaps even more significant than Godfrey’s presence in the latest round of training photos released by Everton, however, is that of star hitman Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

After being forced to withdraw from international service with England due to a thigh problem, DCL was quickly labeled as a doubt to present against Burnley.

However, as shown below, the fit attacker was well enough to play at least one role at Finch Farm today, foreshadowing well ahead of next Monday’s clash:
