Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an update on his team’s physical condition on Thursday.

Leeds on the prowl

Of course, the Reds are ready to return to action this weekend, in their first outing at the back of the international break.

Klopp and company. They have enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign, accumulating seven points out of nine available in the Premier League.

After beating Norwich and Burnley comfortably, Liverpool’s last outing before half-time saw them play a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Such efforts, in turn, see the Merseysiders sitting second in the Premier League table.

The next step in his quest to return to the top of the division, meanwhile, is a highly anticipated meeting with Leeds United this weekend.

VVD Boost

And, as discussed above, prior to his team’s meeting with the Whites on Sunday night at Elland Road, Jurgen Klopp brought his squad up to date today.

The key update, of course, came in the form of the latest on star defender Virgil van Dijk’s well-being.

Dutch international van Dijk, fresh off a long spell on the sidelines, was seen limping from the field as his country concluded his meeting with Turkey on Tuesday night.

Concern, in turn, quickly spread that the VVD could be set up for another stretch out of action.

However, in a boost to everyone associated with Liverpool, Klopp confirmed on Thursday that his staunch defender is ‘fine’:

With Virgil, it was obviously a scary moment, as you can imagine. I texted him after the game, ‘Are you okay?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘100 percent?’ “200 percent”. ‘Come on, send me a video of you without limping…’ ‘I’m just limping.’

‘So he called me from the bus and said,’ Boss, I’m fine! ‘I said,’ Why are you limping then? ‘ He said, ‘My wife asked the same thing!’ So yeah, that was a bit of a tricky moment, but other than that, no, all good. [for the other international players].

Close to Keita and Andre Gomes

Meanwhile, Naby Keita is too available for the national team, despite an alarming series of events that saw the midfielder’s scheduled meeting with Morocco canceled earlier this week, amid a military coup in his home country of Guinea:

Naby is fine. He was not here yesterday [at the AXA Training Centre] but he was back in Liverpool. I’ll have a chat with him today, but from what I know from all the calls and conversations we had, he’s fine. ‘

His midfielder colleague Harvey Elliott is also said to be “fine again.”

However, the news about striker Roberto Firmino was less encouraging, with the Brazilian still on the treatment table after suffering a fitness issue against Chelsea last time:

‘Bobby is not [fit], it happened in the game [against Chelsea] obviously.’
