Arsenal dealt a blow to midfield in the latest team news update

Arsenal dealt a blow to midfield in the latest team news update

Arsenal’s injury problems

Arsenal are off to a horrible start to the 2021/22 campaign, losing their first three games without scoring a goal, and are currently at the bottom of the table. Of course, this is not good enough for the North London team, and while arguably they should have racked up more points, or at least scored a goal, there have been extenuating circumstances.

These come in the double whammy of a Covid-19 outbreak at camp and injuries to several older players. Gabriel and Thomas Partey have missed the start of the season, while Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Ben White and Nicolas Pepe have missed matches due to illness (the first three were due to Covid).

As a result, there is hope that they can turn their fortunes with the return of these players starting this weekend.

Arsenal gave a blow to Elneny

However, they are not out of the woods yet, as a new blow has arrived in midfield. This comes in the form of an injury to the Egyptian Mohammed Elneny, suffered in a friendly against Brentford during the international break.

Although it was initially considered a precaution to remove him from the procedures half an hour later, it has since emerged that the injury is more serious, with the latest news update from the Arsenal team reads:

“Mo has suffered a hamstring strain and his goal is to be back in full training in two to three weeks.”

This leaves the Gunners dangerously short in midfield. Thomas Partey has just returned to training, while Sambi Lokonga’s status is unknown at the moment, after the midfielder was not in the World Cup qualifiers with Belgium.

On top of this, Granit Xhaka is suspended for the next three matches having seen red against Manchester City, and to compound matters he caught Covid-19 in international service with Switzerland.

This leaves Arsenal thin on central midfielders for their next tie against Norwich, which already has the feeling of being a must-win match.
