Nat Phillips gives verdict on Liverpool’s new kid, Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool sign Konate

Liverpool, at the end of May, confirmed the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The deal is believed to have pushed the Reds back. £ 36 million.

Konate joined the now-former club Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2017, coming from the French team FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

And the 22-year-old made 95 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, including 21 during the 2020/21 season.

Konate is quick, powerful and good on the ball at his feet, and he will undoubtedly prove to be a solid signing for a Liverpool whose center-back problems in 2020/21 played a key role in handing over the league title to the club. Manchester City in a rather disappointing way.

Phillips in Konate

However, we haven’t actually seen Konate line up in a Liverpool jersey this period yet.

Of course, that is likely to change after the international break when Liverpool have two games a week quite frequently due to the Champions League and the League Cup.

At the moment, however, Konate has been an unused substitute in all three of the Reds’ league ties this season.

However, that hasn’t stopped Liverpool defender Nat Phillips from offering his verdict on Liverpool’s only signing of the summer.

Phillips, who of course trains with Konate and played with him during the preseason, stated that the Frenchman has fitted in perfectly and is a first-rate player:

“It is a perfect fit. As a person he gets along very well with boys, he is not shy but he seems to really want to learn and improve. He is motivated and works hard.

“From what I’ve seen of him in the preseason, he seems like a great player and a great defender. Physically it is incredible. He is very young and still has a lot of time to improve and I am sure he will do so at Liverpool ”.
