Bukayo Saka wins the Man of the Match award for exhibition vs Andorra

LONDON, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 26: Arsenal's Bukayo Saka celebrates after scoring his team's third goal during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on December 26, 2020 in London, England. Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka was rewarded on Monday for his stellar performance against Andorra last night.

Lingard in the double

Of course, Gareth Southgate’s men were back in action 24 hours ago.

The Three Lions welcomed the Andorran minnows at Wembley, for their final qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup.

England undoubtedly headed into proceedings with overflowing confidence in camp, having kept their impeccable qualifying start alive thanks to a 4-0 beating over Hungary during the week.

And, when all was said and done on Sunday, Andorra was subjected to a similar hammering.

A dominant display, during which the hosts accumulated a staggering 88% of possession, eventually culminating in another 4-0 win.

Jesse Lingard opened the scoring in the Group I clash early on, before Harry Kane resolved any remaining nervousness from the penalty spot with 72 minutes left:

And there was still time to add some shine to the marker.

Lingard’s double came first with just over ten minutes remaining, before Bukayo Saka completed a good night’s work for England with a 4th finish:

To star

In turn, after the action came to a close on Sunday night, it was a little surprise to see a slew of Three Lions stars selected for accolades.

The likes of doubles hitter Lingard and midfield star Jude Bellingham shone through all the action in London.

However, as described above, it is another member of Gareth Southgate’s team who has been rewarded today for his stellar performance against Andorra.

The player in question? Bukayo Saka.

Saka, the open man, had his first start for England since missing the crucial penalty that finally ended the nation’s dream at Euro 2020 over the summer, and took a major step forward.

In total, the Arsenal star, on his 20th birthday, scored a goal and two assists last night.

And such efforts did not go entirely unnoticed by the Three Lions faithful, who on Monday voted Saka as their Man of the Match against Andorra:
