Kai Havertz absent from Germany national team due to ‘flu-like infection’

Why Chelsea's Kai Havertz is not in Germany's call-up to face Armenia

For any Chelsea fan unsure of the reasoning behind Kai Havertz’s absence from the German team to face Armenia tonight, they have received an explanation courtesy of Hansi Flick.

Germans looking at three points

Die Mannschaft is set to be back in action shortly.

In the nation’s final qualifying match for next year’s Qatar World Cup, Germany will host Armenia, in a home and away match at 7.45pm UK time.

The clash marks a crucial one for Flick’s men, following a surprising home loss to North Macedonia earlier this year.

In turn, it is Armenia who currently occupies first place in the Group J table, with the Germans in second place and North Macedonia just one point behind in third place.

As such, it goes without saying that a second consecutive 3-point drive, following a 2o takedown from Liechtenstein earlier this week, is very much on the menu for tonight’s hosts at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

‘Flu-like infection’

In turn, it was undoubtedly a blow to all Die Mannschaft supporters when, following the presentation of the country’s initial XI to face Armenia, one of the nation’s main players was nowhere in sight.

The player in question? Kai Havertz.

Chelsea’s talent has not only missed a spot in Germany’s starting lineup tonight, but Havertz is nowhere to be seen among the substitutes either:

So where exactly is the gifted attacker?

Well, speaking before the last outing on his side, Hansi Flick confirmed tonight that Havertz had come up as a late doubt to come forward, after contracting an unspecified illness:

‘Kai Havertz has a mild flu-like infection, but it’s not that bad. We still have to see if he can train. ‘
