CR7 returns to Manchester United

In one of the biggest stories of the transfer window, Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United, a deal officially confirmed on the day of the deadline.

In a shocking turn of events, Ronaldo was at one point ready to join Manchester City, before United took a nosedive at the eleventh hour to bring the club legend back to Old Trafford, reportedly paying a fee of 15 million euros with potential for another 8 million euros in accessories.

To make things even better for the soccer romantic, Edinson Cavani agreed to give up the number 7 jersey to allow Ronaldo to return to his CR7 brand.

As a result, there were long lines outside the official store, with fans lining up to represent their iconic player and his iconic number once again.

How much did Manchester United win in the first 12 hours?

Now, how much the PR stunt to change Ronaldo back to number 7 beat Manchester United has been uncovered. According lovethesales.com, Ronaldo already has the most owned Premier League jersey this season, and the jersey broke the record for the best-selling jersey online in the first 12 hours.

According to the report, total sales have reached 32.5 million pounds, with Manchester United (according to sports finance expert Kieran Maguire) earning around 7% per shirt sold.

This means that the Red Devils have already recovered around 2.25 million pounds from the sale of shirts alone with the signing of Ronaldo, although of course it is difficult to say how many additional sales it has generated.

Either way, they could be on track to recoup their transfer fee during their two-year stay at Old Trafford.
