Liverpool’s depth of attack is further affected when Takumi Minamino retires from international service

Firmino injured

Liverpool’s final clash before the international break would see him host Chelsea, a club expected to be one of their direct rivals for the title this season.

Jurgen Klopp and company. would be forced to settle for a 1-1 draw that day, even though Chelsea dropped to 10 men just before the break.

In addition to failing to get a win over Chelsea, Liverpool also took a hit on the personnel front last weekend.

Roberto Firmino would start the tie for Liverpool and had been impressive in his pressure during the opening exchanges.

However, the Brazilian was forced to retire with just 43 minutes played at Anfield.

Since then it has been confirmed that the forward has a hamstring injury and, while not too serious, is expected to be out for at least a couple of weeks:

While the initial diagnosis is that the injury is not serious, the forward must undergo further testing and is expected to be out of the game for at least a couple of weeks.

Minamino retires from international duty

Now, it looks like Liverpool have taken another blow to their front line this week.

Takumi Minamino would join Japan for the current international break and stayed on his bench during the 1-0 loss to Oman on Thursday.

Japan will now face China on Tuesday in their 2North Dakota Qualifier for the 2022 World Cup.

And the forward will not participate in that game either, with the Echo of Liverpool reporting on Saturday that:

The Japan FA announced on Saturday that Minamino would leave the national team “due to injury” and would not participate in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying match against China.
