Before the window slammed shut this week, all members of Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Sambi Lokonga were brought in to rejuvenate Mikel Arteta’s ranks.

Then, on the deadline last Tuesday, there were much-needed additions to the right back as well.

After the aforementioned Bellerin was granted passage to Real Betis, the Gunners pounced decisively to lure Takehiro Tomiyasu to the Emirates from Serie A Bologna:

‘What we are looking at’

Tomiyasu, a versatile 22-year-old defender with experience both in one of Europe’s top divisions and on the international stage, of course represents an unknown quantity to most Arsenal fans.

However, as noted above, a former gunner is evidently of the opinion that, in the long run, the Japanese will prove to be a solid addition.

Speaking on talkSPORT this weekend, Sol Campbell was drawn to his former club’s summer business and started:

“Arsenal have been incredibly busy. It’s nice … they’re trying!

Focusing on the addition of Tomiyasu specifically, meanwhile, the 46-year-old seemed pleased with the move, explaining:

‘Takehiro Tomiyasu, from Bologna. He’s a defender, well, 22 years old, he seems strong, another potential player. That’s what we’re seeing right now. ‘
