Raheem Sterling responds to treatment in Hungary with challenging message

Raheem Sterling turns to social media to respond to treatment in Hungary

England and Manchester City star Raheem Sterling took to Twitter tonight to post a defiant message to the Hungarian supporters who attacked him on Thursday night.

Three lions mutiny

Sterling and company of course were back in action just under 24 hours ago.

In the nation’s first competitive action test since suffering the heartbreak at the last European Championship, England made the trip to the Puskas Arena, for a match with Hungary.

With Marco Rossi’s team not proving to be easy at the Euro itself, a tough night was predicted for the Three Lions in Budapest.

However, when all was said and done, the class of visitors simply proved to be too much.

After a frustrating 45 minutes into the opening, the game finally came to life shortly before the hour mark, when a scintillating flurry down the left culminated in Mason Mount’s setback being placed at home by Raheem Sterling:

And, from here, the floodgates were opened.

Harry Kane was next on target, before Harry Maguire secured the three points for Southgate and company. with a header of his own five minutes later:

And there was even time for Declan Rice to add some sparkle to the scoreboard, culminating an excellent solo display with England’s fourth place just minutes from full time.

A magnificent night for the Three Lions, who are marching towards a perfect 12 points out of 12 to open their qualification campaign for the 2022 World Cup.

‘Willful’

However, the stellar 90 minutes for everyone associated with the English setup on Thursday was embittered by the Hungarian contingent who attended the clash.

The tone of the evening was set before the action had begun, when the visiting stars were booed as they knelt before the start of the match.

And the racial persecution of England’s players continued throughout the action in Budapest.

Raheem Sterling was put through a particularly unpleasant ordeal, with the Manchester City star, amid efforts to pay tribute to Steffie Gregg, a close friend who recently passed away, after being interrupted by a chorus of boos, vile gestures and a series of projectiles from a section of the local crowd:

Declan Rice was Quick to make it clear that Gareth Southgate players would not be intimidated, taking the opportunity to show off the classless fans in question.

And tonight, Sterling himself has also responded.

On social media, the 26-year-old posted a photo of himself standing in front of the ridiculous behavior at the Puskas Arena, accompanied by the defiant one-word message: ‘HEADSTRONG’
