Pau Torres explains why he rejected Tottenham's step

Tottenham linked to Pau Torres

Pau Torres is a product of the Spanish Villarreal youth system.

After perfecting his trade on loan at Malaga, Torres has since returned to Villarreal, where he has established himself as a key figure in Unai Emery’s team.

The 24-year-old made 44 appearances in all competitions for The Yellow Submarine last season, playing a crucial role in his first Europa League win with Unai Emery.

The 14-time international has also demonstrated his impressive passing range and ball prowess in recent seasons, a trait that all the best center-backs must possess in the modern game.

So Spurs fans were undoubtedly pleased to see that their team was linked to Torres by a reliable source like The Times this summer:

Why did Torres turn down the Spurs?

Of course, Tottenham did not end up landing Torres, but instead brought in Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

Now, however, Torres has spoken about the links and revealed why he declined a move.

The center-back assured that he was very clear that he wanted to stay at home and at Villarreal, adding that it was a quick decision:

“They informed me of Tottenham’s interest, but it was always clear to me that I wanted to stay at Villarreal.

“My idea was to have an exciting season, I was very clear about what I wanted, and that was to stay at home and at Villarreal. So it was a quick decision.

“All decisions are respectable; I wanted to stay. I am happy with the decision I made, my idea was to stay at home and I am happy about that ”.

FPL fans take note: Lionel Scaloni’s comments suggest the Aston Villa and Tottenham stars could miss three games for their clubs
