Lingard’s stance behind West Ham’s failure to launch a late transfer raid

Explanation provided for West Ham's decision not to throw the late Jesse Lingard swoop

A fresh look at the summer transfer saga between West Ham United and Jesse Lingard will be offered on Friday.

Hammers stand out

The name of the English international Lingard, of course, took center stage in the media chatter along the recently closed window.

This came with the 28-year-old fresh off something of a career revival during the second half of last season.

After fighting again for playing time during the first half of the season at Old Trafford, Lingard was loaned to West Ham, with whom he exceeded all expectations.

Having been free to operate from the ranks of the Hammers in the middle of the park, the creative midfielder quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most prominent players.

In total, he racked up nine goals and four assists in 16 appearances for West Ham, the kind of form that culminated in a Player and Goal of the Month double in April:

Vlasic landed

Such stellar feats, in turn, led to unavoidable talks that Lingard could go on to seal a swift return to London Stadium, after his loan period came to an end in June.

When all was said and done, yet despite the rampant speculation, such a move did not come to fruition.

Instead, West Ham opted to bring in talented Croatian international Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow, in a deadline deal:

So, with the hefty fee peppered on Vlasic’s signing that made it clear the Irons weren’t short of funds, why did a second raid for Lingard ultimately fail?

Well, as described above, an explanation for precisely this has been presented today.

Information is courtesy of 90min, who report that Lingard himself had the decisive word to remain a Manchester United player.

It is claimed that “the player made it clear to the club (West Ham) that he did not want to return to the London stadium.”

It is even understood that Lingard communicated his decision directly to David Sullivan, a move that motivated David Moyes and company. to alter his transfer plans and shift focus to Vlasic.

Another season on the sidelines? Donny van de Beek’s agent confirms that the midfielder has no guarantees about playing time at Man United
