The number assigned to Chelsea’s newest signing, Saul Niguez, was revealed Thursday night by the Premier League giants.

The blues make moves

Of course, a busy summer in West London came to an end earlier this week.

Already with a Champions League winning team, most of the work done by those in a position of power at Stamford Bridge came in the form of expenses.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Victor Moses were permanently relocated, while many others left for their respective stints outside the club.

On the innings front, meanwhile, the return of Romelu Lukaku, of course, made the most headlines.

The Belgian, fresh off a brilliant campaign in Italy with Inter Milan, opted to re-link with the Pensioners, in a treatment worth just £ 100 million.

Saul’s number revealed

Then, just when it looked like Marina Granovskaia and company. He had asked for time in his search for backup, another high-profile arrival looming on the day of the transfer deadline this week.

The last player to walk through the gate at Stamford Bridge? Saul Niguez.

In a potential robbery by Thomas Tuchel’s men, Spanish international Saúl has transferred his talent to the English capital, with the option to buy for around £ 30 million next summer.

The player on loan from Atlético de Madrid, in turn, has since joined a select number of his new teammates, as he has not been called up for international service with Spain.

And in the middle of his first full day at the Chelsea base, tonight has provided a fresh insight into the place Saul will occupy in Thomas Tuchel’s team.

This comes in the form of a 26 year old jersey number.

As revealed in a post on the Blues’ social media platforms, Saul will don the 17 jersey for next season, after Mateo Kovacic recently vacated the number to take his place as the club’s new No. 8.

Others who have worn 17 for Chelsea in recent years include Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodríguez.
