Swansea secures loan of Liverpool Under-21 international center-back

Swansea secured the Central break from Liverpool on loan; long-term contract with the Reds

Swansea seals deal for young Liverpool

Swansea City continued its stint of reinforcement under Russel Martin this summer after completing a deal for Liverpool’s central defender. Rhys williams on a loan agreement for the duration of the 2021-22 Championship campaign.

The deal for Williams, a Liverpool academy graduate, can certainly be seen as something of a coup by the Swans after the 20-year-old came into the limelight last season in the middle of a stint. Torrid injuries that affected Jürgen Klopp’s team.

Williams, an England Under-21 international, made 19 appearances in what was his debut season last season under less than ideal circumstances. He expertly handled them despite the eventful nature of his introduction to first-team soccer, in a season that included six Champions League appearances.

The Preston native becomes Swansea’s seventh signing of the summer, joining Joël Piroe, Liam Walsh, Jamie Paterson, Kyle Joseph, Flynn Downes and Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird.

Long-term future secured in Liverpool

Despite his loan away from Anfield this season, Williams also secured a long-term contract with Liverpool before heading to Liberty Stadium.

The central youth secured a new 5-year contract with the Reds That will see him stay on the books until 2026, which bodes well for a player looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Curtis Jones and Neco Williams.

“It has also been a huge influence on me to see some of my friends like Neco Williams and Curtis Jones go straight to the first team in Liverpool, it made me think that I wanted a part of that.

Then it was seeing the caliber of the players I hope to play with one day, that has been a great motivation for me to try to reach that level. “

A good loan period for Williams in the Championship would go a long way to bolstering his chances of returning to the first team fold for the long-term image at Liverpool next season, with the club counting on Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konaté and Nathaniel Phillips for the current season.
