Ruben Neves out? The latest on the chase of Manchester United midfielders

Ruben Neves out? The latest on the chase of Manchester United midfielders

Manchester United’s summer to date

Manchester United have enjoyed a strong summer. Finishing second to last last season, they have joined Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho for £ 73 million and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane for about 35 million pounds.

However, the centerpiece of the transfer window was the announcement that Cristiano Ronaldo was returning to Manchester after 12 years away.

With these additions, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s responsibility is to bring out the best in the team and challenge former champions Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League crown.

However, one of the gaps that still remain on the side is the central midfield.

United need a midfielder

As was painfully clear in their 1-1 draw with Southampton, Manchester United struggled in central midfield, while moving Paul Pogba to center park against the Wolves left midfield woefully exposed.

However, the chances of the Red Devils adding a midfielder to their ranks in the next few hours are increasingly remote. Of the options, Ruben Neves seemed the most realistic, but a play for his possible replacement, Renato Sanches of Lille, has apparently been broken. In turn, it seems unlikely that Neves will leave Molineux this summer.

Indeed, Manchester Evening News correspondent Samuel Luckhurst reports that a midfielder “will almost certainly not come in”, and that Manchester United target Eduardo Camavinga is now on the verge of signing for Real Madrid.

As such, it could be that the best hopes for Manchester United fans are in the form of sidelined player Donny Van De Beek.

Will this bite them again?
