Arsenal announce the signing of Bologna right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu

Official: Arsenal announce the signing of Bologna right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal add Tomiyasu to their squad

In a deal that only reached the media on Tuesday morning, Arsenal today confirmed a deal to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna.

Emerging details suggest it could cost the Gunners £ 16m plus additional bonuses.

Right-back Tomiyasu, who can also play as a center-back, has spent the previous two seasons at Bologna, where he played 64 times for the Emiliano-Romagna side. According to the report, Arsenal has been keeping an eye on the Japanese international, who finished fourth in the Olympics with his country, throughout the summer.

Tomiyasu replaces Bellerin

Tomiyasu is expected to join the Gunners as the starting right-back and replace outgoing Héctor Bellerin, who has joined Real Betis on loan this season. He will compete with Cedric, Callum Chambers and Ainsley Maitland-Niles for the right back spot.

It will provide Arteta with three of his own backline signings from Arsenal, with Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale also joining the club. With all the first-choice defenders under the age of 25, they are expected to grow together to help Arsenal return to the Champions League places.

Will it be enough to help Arsenal return to Europe?
