Arsenal confirm Willian’s departure

Details revealed when Arsenal confirm Willian's departure

Premier League giants Arsenal confirmed the departure of attacker Willian on Monday night.

Gunners problems

The subject of Willian’s future, of course, has risen again in the last two weeks.

This happened with the Brazilian not having had a single minute of playing time in any of Arsenal’s last six outings (preseason included).

Willian was brought to the Emirates last summer amid widespread concern from the Gunners’ faithful, many of whom made clear their feelings that the 33-year-old had passed his expiration date.

And, if the resulting evidence demonstrated something to go through, then it is difficult to argue against the validity of such fears.

Willian endured a torrid debut campaign in North London, scoring just one solo goal in 25 Premier League appearances.

Such problems ultimately culminated in the former Chelsea player giving up his place not only in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, but, at times, in his plans for the day altogether.

Corinthians bound

In turn, the speculation that has started to accumulate lately that Willian was heading towards the Emirates gate was a little surprise.

And, as described above, on Monday night, a definitive development is looming in the saga.

Via the club’s social media platforms, Arsenal confirmed that their highly scrutinized attacker has moved on permanently.

In a remarkable act of generosity, Willian simply agreed to terminate his contract in the Emirates, losing a rumored £ 20 million in wages in the process.

The Brazilian, in turn, has ensured the return to his country of origin, with the Corinthians childhood club:

He had two more years to fulfill his contract, but after recent positive and constructive discussions with him and his team, he will be heading for a new opportunity with Corinthians in Brazil, where he began his career.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes Willian and his family the best for the future.
