The stats behind William Saliba's latest impressive Marseille display as Arsenal's defense continues to fail

Arsenal’s bad start

Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign is off to an absolute nightmare start.

The Gunners would start their season against the newly promoted Brentford, who had never played a single Premier League game before this season.

However, the Bees were able to take advantage of a poor defense from Arsenal, especially from Ben White and Pablo Mari, to win 2-0.

Mari was then completely dominated by Romelu Lukaku as Chelsea achieved a 2-0 victory in the second game of the Gunners’ campaign.

Then Mari would be eliminated for the Manchester City clash on Saturday, with Arteta opting for a rather odd back-three from Sead Kolasinac, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers.

Chambers was especially poor on the day and was largely to blame for Ilkay Gundogan’s opening goal.

Arsenal would eventually lose 5-0 to Man City, meaning they have failed to win their first three games of a season in the top flight for the first time since 1954/55:

Saliba impresses for Marseille

While Arsenal continue to fail, one of their loaners is enjoying a magnificent start to the season in France.

William Saliba, 20, has been loaned to Marseille for the course of this season.

The center-back has started all four of his Ligue 1 ties this season so far, including his win over Saint Etienne on Saturday.

In the later part of that demo, Saliba’s impressive stats for the game have come to light.

Statistics, taken from SofaScore, you can see below and it paints a picture far more impressive than anything we’ve seen of Arsenal’s sorry center-backs this season.
