Neves rages as controversy grows over Man United vs Wolves winner

Neves Fumes and Arsenal fans highlight Xhaka incident as controversy grows around Man United vs Wolves winner

The drama surrounding Manchester United’s lone goal en route to victory over Wolves tonight has since continued well beyond the final whistle of the game.

Greenwood the difference

Of course, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were back in action just a short time ago.

The Red Devils, encouraged by the news of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return, made the trip to the West Midlands, for a Premier League encounter with the Wolves.

United headed to proceedings seeking a recovery result, having fallen to a 1-1 stalemate at Southampton last time out.

And when the 90 minutes were said and done on Sunday, getting back on the winning track is precisely what the visitors achieved.

A close affair was finally decided with a solo goal, ten minutes from time.

After being slipped by rookie Raphael Varane, Mason Greenwood continued his stellar start to the campaign, passing under José Sa for his third goal in three appearances:

‘Everyone saw it’

However, it was not the ultimate winner of the game that took center stage in the post-match talk in Molineux.

Instead, this surrounded an incident in the preparation of the Greenwood effort, in the form of a challenge between Paul Pogba and Ruben Neves.

The tackle in question saw the former go over the ball with his right foot, making minimal contact on the shin of the Wolves’ overall midfield.

Neves, meanwhile, was slow to hit the ground, actions that appeared to be key in persuading referee Mike Dean not to concede a free throw. In turn, moments later, United scored the crucial goal of the game.

The man who received the challenge was one who was understandably aggrieved by the situation, lamenting both the incident itself and the VAR’s lack of intervention:

And if the resulting backlash on social media is anything to go by, then it seems Neves is far from the only one of the opinion that Manchester United got away with it tonight.

Experts, rival fans and neutrals alike have taken to Twitter in their numbers to question Dean’s decision, with those of an Arsenal persuasion seemingly particularly aggrieved, on the back of Granit Xhaka’s impeachment against Manchester City on Saturday:

CR7 back on the charts? Another twist as Ronaldo was now hoping to take away the number 7 from Edinson Cavani

Manchester United fans are unlikely to be happy with Gary Neville’s prediction in the Premier League for the club.
