What Reece James’s red card means for FPL prospects

FPL bosses take note: games Reece James will miss after red card vs Liverpool

The main talking point stemming from the Liverpool-Chelsea matchup tonight will have notable ramifications when it comes to the world of Fantasy Football.

Salah cancels Havertz

Of course, the big Premier League weekend match is currently being played at Anfield.

In the match in question, Liverpool and Chelsea face off, in a highly anticipated showdown between two of the biggest clubs in English football.

The two sides headed to the proceedings having enjoyed a nearly identical opening to the season, racking up two wins out of two, while finding the back of the net five times and not conceding a single time.

In turn, it came as no surprise that the first 45 minutes in Merseyside tonight were a close affair.

It was visitors Chelsea who opened the scoring midway through the half, when Kai Havertz did wonderfully to direct Reece James’s corner kick home from the left:

However, on the edge of the break, the clash leaned heavily in favor of the hosts.

A chaotic sequence of events in the Chelsea area, beginning with Joel Matip heading against the crossbar, finally culminated with Reece James clearing the ball off the line with the help of one hand.

Referee Anthony Taylor, in turn, opted not only to award a penalty, but also to send the Chelsea defender into an early bath:

And Mohamed Salah made no mistake with his subsequent 12-yard finish, sending Edouard Mendy down the wrong path to lead both sides at halftime with the score at one each.

Most Recent James

However, as the dust settles around the decision to send James on his way, those of a Fantasy Football persuasion have been left to question a completely separate issue.

How long will the English international be ruled out?

Firings from the Premier League can sometimes result in confusion, and some – violent behavior, for example – result in a three-game suspension.

Fortunately for James’ owners at FPL, however, the plug does not face such severe punishment.

Instead, he will be suspended for just one solo game, when Chelsea host Aston Villa on September 11, following the international break.
