Jurgen Klopp speaks after benching Keita and Jota for Chelsea clash

Jurgen Klopp speaks after benching Keita and Jota for Chelsea clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out on his final matchday XI, after opting for a series of changes in a bid to overtake European champion Chelsea.

Merseyside Showdown

Of course, the big Premier League weekend match is currently being played at Anfield.

The meeting in question sees two of the biggest clubs in English football go head-to-head, in the form of a highly anticipated meeting between Liverpool and Chelsea.

Both clubs headed to the proceedings with the aim of keeping alive the perfect start to the new campaign, having accumulated six points out of the six available.

Host Liverpool, meanwhile, edged Norwich City and Burnley respectively, by an aggregate score of five goals to nil.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also racked up a five-goal win without conceding, following up a knockdown on opening day at Crystal Palace with another comfortable derby win over Arsenal last time out.

‘I need everyone’

In turn, it was no surprise to see Thomas Tuchel opt for just one change to his starting lineup tonight, with N’Golo Kante replacing Mateo Kovacic.

Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, chose to turn things around.

The Liverpool manager, obviously keen to reintroduce an air of familiarity to his team, selected all Andy Robertson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino to face Chelsea.

This, in turn, forced the trio of Kostas Tsimikas, Naby Keita and Diogo Jota, all of whom played a key role in the Reds’ quick start to the campaign, to the bench.

Therefore, unsurprisingly, Klopp was drawn to his selection changes ahead of action that begins in Merseyside tonight.

And the German was eager to highlight all the Tsimikas, Keita and Jota for special praise, before ensuring that they will all be required to make hard-hitting contributions over the next few weeks and months:
