'Unforgivable': Fans mourn Arsenal's decision to hand Xhaka a new contract following midfielder's latest red card against Man City

Xhaka expelled

Arsenal are currently locked in Premier League action with Manchester City.

The Gunners headed into the game after back-to-back 2-0 losses in the Premier League.

And, with just 45 minutes elapsed at the time of writing, Arsenal’s losing start to the 2021/22 season looks set to continue.

Ilkay Gundogan would lead Man City to the lead after just seven minutes:

Ferran Torres was then able to make it 2-0 five minutes later before Gabriel Jesús added a third just before the break.

Shortly before Jesus’ goal, Granit Xhaka would receive a direct red card for his foul on Joao Cancelo:

Arsenal fans hit

During his time at Arsenal, Xhaka has been known for his lack of discipline, and has now been sent off the most times of any Premier League player since his debut:

Xhaka’s expulsion comes less than two weeks after he was confirmed that the Swiss midfielder had extended his contract at Arsenal until 2024 with an option for one more year.

And now, Arsenal fans have taken to social media to criticize Arsenal for handing Xhaka a new deal on the back of his expulsion against City:
