Everton update suggests Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a question for Brighton

Everton update suggests Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a question for Brighton

Brighton vs Everton

Everton face a trip south on Saturday afternoon, for a clash with Brighton.

The Toffees have gotten off to a decent start to life with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard would guide his new team to a 3-1 victory over Southampton in the first weekend of the campaign.

Everton then drew 2-2 against Leeds United last weekend.

Brighton, meanwhile, has scored the most points so far in 2021/22. The Seagulls would beat Burnley 2-1 in the first week of play, before beating Watford by two scoreless goals last time out.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin Update

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Everton have provided a short update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, suggesting he could miss out on Saturday against Brighton.

The forward, who was called up for England earlier this week, is off to a good start in 2021/22, scoring in Everton’s two Premier League games so far this season.

However, it appears that DCL has had an injury in those matches.

The forward missed a preseason loss to Manchester United earlier this month. At that time, there were some reports that Calvert-Lewin had a toe problem in training prior to that game.

And now, those reports appear to have been correct, with Everton writing that Rafa Benítez is waiting to make a decision on Calvert-Lewin’s involvement on Saturday, as the forward is working on a restricted training program due to a toe problem:

Benitez is awaiting a decision on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s participation at Brighton, with the forward’s training program still restricted by a toe problem.

Said update came on Friday night, suggesting it will be a late call for DCL against Brighton.
