Boost for Arsenal with Willian ready to ‘break’ Arsenal contract

Big boost for Arsenal as revealed by Willian's selfless exit gesture

The final word from the English media on Saturday night suggests that Willian is ready to break his contract with Arsenal.

Gunners problems

The subject of Willian’s future, of course, has come to the fore again in the last two weeks.

This is because the Brazilian has not had a single minute of playing time in any of Arsenal’s last five outings (preseason included).

Willian was brought to the Emirates last summer amid widespread concern from the Gunners’ faithful, many of whom made clear their feelings that the 33-year-old had passed his expiration date.

And, if the resulting evidence is something to build on, then it is difficult to argue against the validity of such fears.

Willian endured a torrid debut campaign in North London, scoring just one solo goal in 25 Premier League appearances.

Such problems ultimately culminated in the former Chelsea player giving up his place not only in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, but, at times, in his plans for the day altogether.

Corinthians bound

In turn, the mounting speculation that Willian is heading for Emirates’ exit door has come as a bit of a surprise.

And, as described above, there was a major development in the saga on Saturday night, suggesting that the veteran is now on the verge of returning to his home country.

The information is courtesy of Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, who reports that Willian is ready to ‘break’ his contract with Arsenal, saving the club around £ 20 million in the process.

The South American will not demand a reward from the board in North London, but will instead bring his talents to the children’s club Corinthians, with a 70% pay cut:
