Why Tottenham and West Ham are the biggest losers of the Carabao Cup third round draw.

Why Tottenham and West Ham are the biggest losers of the Carabao Cup third round draw.

Draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup took place tonight, following the conclusion of the final rounds of the second round. Arsenal and Southampton advanced to the third round with strong victories over West Bromwich Albion and Newport County respectively, while they were joined by Premier League Burnley, who triumphed over Newcastle United on penalties.

The seven teams participating in European competitions this season will join the 25 teams that have qualified in the second round, bringing the total pool of teams in the competition to 32.

And, as always, the giveaway yielded some tasty bows.

Manchester United host West Ham

Perhaps in the most intriguing story of the round, David Moyes will take his high-flying West Ham United to his former stomping ground, Old Trafford, to take on Manchester United.

Moyes was released after just one season with the Red Devils, but has led the Europa League Hammers threatened by relegation in the space of 18 months, impressing along the way.

There could be more intrigue added to the tie depending on the future of former West Ham loan officer Jesse Lingard, who has returned to Manchester United. If it did show up, it might get a great reception.

Nuno’s derby

Tottenham and Wolves just got through the showdown last weekend but are ready to meet at Molineux once again as they have faced each other in the third round.

The tie could get even tastier depending on the future of 25-year-old Adama Traore, who is subject to Tottenham’s interest, with only two years left to run on his current contract with the Wolves.

The Lilywhites, like Moyes, will have to handle a lukewarm reception as they head to the Midlands.

Could you end up dressed in white before the end of the window?
