Roma look for a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek to follow Tammy Abraham? Roma look for a move for Chelsea midfielder

The Loftus-Cheek struggles

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, of course, has endured a difficult couple of seasons, largely due to injuries and a lack of regular football at Chelsea.

However, after returning from a loan stint at Crystal Palace in 2018, things seemed to be looking up for the midfielder.

Maurizio Sarri was in command at Stamford Bridge at the time, and the Italian gave RLC plenty of playing time, especially in Europe.

However, towards the end of the period, Loftus-Cheek suffered another injury, which subsequently ruled him out not only for the remainder of that campaign, but for most of 2019/20 as well.

Then, after appearing in a solo league game at the beginning of last season, with Frank Lampard, the midfielder was loaned out to Fulham.

Loftus-Cheek would score one goal in 31 starts for the now champion team.

Roma Eye Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek would return for the summer and had the rare opportunity to impress Thomas Tuchel in the preseason.

However, now that the campaign has started, we have yet to see the midfielder make a competitive start with the German.

And, with the summer window about a week left, Loftus-Cheek is being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

The club claiming to be interested in his services is AS Roma, home to former Chelsea manager José Mourinho and former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who left Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Rome’s ties to RLC come from Corriere dello Sport, which suggest that Roma would like to acquire the Englishman in an initial loan, with an option to purchase 16 million euros.

While the 25-year-old is signed by Chelsea until 2024, it’s hard to see him winning any form of regular football at Bridge this year. So while € 16 million may not be that high, it’s probably the best Chelsea will get for an injury-prone star who hasn’t had a great season in a while.
