Arteta opts for a strong XI when Arsenal face West Brom in the Carabao Cup

Mikel Arteta announces strong XI as Arsenal face West Brom in Carabao Cup

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta opted to have experience ahead of the youngsters tonight as the Gunners launched their starting XI an hour before kickoff at the Hawthorns against West Brom in the Carabao Cup.

Many hoped that Arteta would potentially sound the changes and leave out players like Miguel Azeez and Folarin Balogun, but neither the academy product has been named in the starting XI nor has it been included in the team of the day.

Martin Ødegaard makes his long-awaited return to Arsenal XI after recently completing his final transfer from Real Madrid, while Aaron Ramsdale he’s set to make his full debut with the Gunners as well after his move from Sheffield United.

In a surprising decision, Sead Kolasinac has been included in the selection of Arteta’s team, as has young Nuno Tavares, raising questions about what formation the Gunners will deploy during their travels. There is the possibility of a back three with Kolasinac possibly deployed on the left side of a back three with Bukayo Saka deployed in full back capacity on the left flank with Nuno Tavares on the opposite wing.

Another, more sensible possibility would be for Arteta to persist with the usual 4-2-3-1 setup, which will see Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny roll out the center of the park, and a full-back made up of Kolasinac and Tavares in either. side of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will also return to his initial duties and will lead the line flanked by Nicolas Pépé and the aforementioned Saka. However, their inclusion makes it unclear who will start against Manchester City at the weekend.

Overall it is a strong eleven that Arsenal really should get a result to finally get the campaign going.
