Antonio Conte’s position on accepting the position at Arsenal revealed

Antonio Conte's position on accepting the position at Arsenal revealed

Arsenal’s tough start

It’s fair to say that Arsenal haven’t had the best of starts to the 2021/22 campaign.

The Gunners began their campaign against a Brentford team playing their first Premier League tie.

The Bees would go on to get a 2-0 win, with Arsenal looking particularly flat throughout the game, especially at the rear.

The next step for Arsenal was a clash with their London rivals Chelsea, which they completely dominated and probably should have won four or five to nil, rather than the 2-0 victory they got.

Following Chelsea’s defeat, it was revealed that Arsenal opened a league season with two losses and no goals after two games for the first time in their history while playing in England’s top four:

Arteta also suffered his 20th defeat as Arsenal manager in the Premier League, which was his 60th game. Arsene Wenger, on the other hand, did not record his twentieth defeat with the Gunners in PL until their 116th game.

The Spanish record as Arsenal boss is also quite similar to that of Unai Emery, who was fired after losing 20 games:

On the back of these statistics, it was not surprising to see that Mikel Arteta was reported to have five games to turn Arsenal around or could be facing a fight for his job:

Count Arsenal?

Should Arteta leave, the previous Telegraph report said the North London team is likely to make Antonio Conte their first choice to replace him.

Conte, of course, won the Premier League with Chelsea and ended Juventus’ reign of dominance over Serie A with Inter Milan last season.

But while, on paper, Conte would appear to be a significant improvement on the shaky Arteta, he doesn’t seem like he’s really willing to join Arsenal.

Instead, a recent Independent report claims that those close to the Italian insist he has little interest in taking over the Emirates and that they don’t think he can compete with the team they have now:

Those close to Antonio Conte insist that he has little interest in taking charge. He just doesn’t think he can compete with the team as is.

5 players Manchester United should target to join Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in midfield

8 players who could still leave Chelsea this summer
