The Premier League will not allow players to travel to red list countries

The first international break of the 2021/22 Premier League season is just around the corner.

Most national teams will play at least two World Cup qualifying matches during this break, most of which will start on Day 2.North Dakota of September.

However, before the break, the Premier League announced that competing clubs on Tuesday decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month.

A statement on the Premier League website reads:

Premier League clubs have decided today reluctantly, but unanimously, not to release players for international matches to be played in the red list countries next month.

The clubs’ decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who will travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.

This follows FIFA’s current position not to extend its temporary release exception for players who must be quarantined upon return from international service.

Who will be affected?

As mentioned in the previous statement, almost 60 players will be affected by this decision.

One of the main clubs to be affected is Liverpool. At the time of writing, both Brazil and Egypt are currently in the UK Red List.

And with Brazil playing at home on September 5th and September 10th, this would have meant, under the current rules in force across the UK, that all Roberto Firmino, Alisson and Fabinho would have had to self-insulating for 10 days once back in the UK, of course, leading to missing matches and losing their fitness.

Egypt is also currently on the red list and their first game will take place at home on September 2.North DakotaMohamed Salah also reportedly had to isolate himself for 10 days.

Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp and company, however, this will no longer be the case.

On the other hand, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson, Richarlison, Fred and Raphinha had been called up for the last matches in Brazil, but they will not participate in the last two matches either.

5 players Manchester United should target to join Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in midfield

8 players who could still leave Chelsea this summer
